Linoleum Relief Printing, 32/36 Year of Creation: 2023
I craved this linoleum printing block alongside my graduate students in the Cultural Diversity in Art and Society course in the Fall of 2023 to advocate social inclusion and equity. As a queer Asian woman, I have always wanted to find a place in society where I can be my authentic self and be loved. One day, feeling particularly upset, walked along the James River. I came across a sticker with the simple yet profound message, "You are loved." This random sticker lifted my spirits and showered me with warmth. In that moment, I reflected: In the future, want my works to exude a healing power for others. It is crucial to consistently remind ourselves and those navigating the journey to embrace their authentic selves that "no matter who you are, you are loved."
